Our History
|
|
In 1996 a few like minded members of a local gym decided to meet up on Sunday mornings for a regular run. They enjoyed the experience and decided to set a running club from the gym. The initial group soon grew and entered teams in cross-country events and road races. Within a year the runners had to leave the gym and find new headquarters for our training nights. The old club was disbanded and BRACKLA HARRIERS was formed. The phoenix logo was adopted to symbolise the new club born from the ashes of the old. During the first year the club joined the Gwent cross Country League (a very puzzling name as very few of the fixtures are in Gwent) and both the men and ladies teams won their divisions and earned promotion. As Brackla Harriers, the ladies team continued their winning ways and won their division for the next two years and have been competing in Division 1 since 1999. The men also earned promotion every year until 2001, when they came third in Division 2 and got promoted to Division 1 in 2002. The club does not compete in the Gwent league at the moment but may get an XC team together soon enquire here. The club has grown into one that caters for all abilities so why not call/contact us now and build up long running friendships |
